Add a Record to the Database

To add a record to your database, you must have the step activity data in the active window (the one in front) on your computer screen. This can be either data just downloaded from your StepWatch or data from an opened or imported file on your computer.

Before Adding a Record to Your Database
  1. Previously, you must have added the associated client to the database. (See Help for Add Client.) Then you may assign multiple data records to any one client.

  2. Be sure the Low and Moderate Activity levels are set to the levels you want. (The designation for High Level activity does not affect your statistics.) You can change Activity Level designations using the Preferences option in the Edit menu. If you make a change to your preferences, you need to close and re-open your file before submitting it to the database. We recommend deciding on your activity level designations before you start data analysis, then leaving the levels constant to avoid inconsistencies in your data. See Activity Level help for further discussion.

  3. Be certain that you have specified the desired included and excluded time for every day in your data file. To make changes to your time selected for analysis, click on the Edit Time tab in your data screen. Double click on any day you wish to change. Make the desired change then click the OK button. For further detail, see Edit Time help. Once you have submitted a record to the database, you cannot alter this without deleting the record and re-entering it with the desired changes. See Altering a Database Record for more information.

Adding the Record to Your Database
When you are satisfied that your file is in order, select the "Add [file name] to Database" option in the Database menu. A window will open that allows you to choose the client to whom the record will be associated from a sortable pop-up menu of all clients you have entered. When you select the appropriate client, you may add notes associated with the data. Click Add Record to submit the data to the database.

If you have not already added the client to the database, you must do so before you enter the record. (See Add a New Client.) After the client is added, return to the window with the client's step data and select the "Add [file name] to Database" option in the Database menu. Follow the procedures in the paragraph above.

If you have already entered this data to the database, a warning message will appear, giving you the option to proceed or cancel. The database references parameters specific to the monitor and the recording time rather than the file name when generating this warning, but the warning does not occur if one of the files has been time shifted.
